We envision a future when Floridians with serious mental illness will no longer be homeless, incarcerated, or relegated to substandard housing due to their illness; instead they will live independently with some help to achieve their best lives possible in recovery.
We provide affordable, quality permanent residences with the support of mental health services for Floridians living in recovery with serious mental illness.
Our Goal: 20 Houses by 2020
TBF’s goal is to provide 20 houses by 2020. Houses are defined as single family homes or apartment buildings.
- People First. We honor the worth and dignity of all individuals and, with compassion, serve others to enrich their lives.
- Lasting Relationships. We welcome others’ participation and seek long-term partnerships to make an enduring difference.
- Excellence. We reach for high standards and goals, strive for continuous improvement, and measure outcomes.
- Communication. We are always open and respectful.
- Growth. We seek bigger and better ways to improve the lives of many.
- Possibility Thinking. We search for creative solutions with a can-do attitude.
- Integrity. We do the right thing, keep our word, and operate in an ethical manner.
Our History and Results
Ron Wilensky founded TBF in February 2010 and is Chairperson of the Foundation’s Board of Directors. He was inspired to establish TBF by his brother-in-law’s successful experience living in supportive housing. The following summer, TBF formed and gifted its first house, a single family home for four individuals, to one of Florida’s largest and highly regarded community mental health centers, Lakeside Behavioral Healthcare, Inc. (Lakeside) in Orlando.
Dave’s House is benefitting from a $240,000 grant that Lakeside received from Homeless Services Network for renovations, furnishings and a multi-year contribution for mental health support services for Lakesides’s community-based housing programs.
Ron and his wife, Lin, have experience in developing four other Dave’s Houses – two in Northern Virginia with Pathway Homes, Inc. and two in Orlando with Lakeside. The second Orlando house was developed in partnership with the generosity of Orange County and their donation of Neighborhood Stabilization funds.
The Dave’s House program at Pathway Homes received accreditation by the nationally recognized Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), the premier accrediting organization for mental health services in the United States.
The Wilenskys and TBF are proud to work with quality providers like Lakeside and Pathway Homes.
